Dear Rooters,

Thanks for the kind words on the project. I think I speak for all the volunteers on this project in stating that we know there are a number of errors and omissions but with over 105,000 entries it is just going to take additional time to resolve all those and we wanted to get something out to mark the 150th anniversary. Folks like you will help us make it a better and more complete resource over time.

I have heard from a number of people who have sent messages to the Early Oregonian email address and that is the best place to send updates and additions.

You are all very good as guessing our little abbreviations. At some point we will have a "key" to the references in the source field. (Maybe within the week.) But for right now the information that you have seen posted is correct

dc = death certificate (within the Archives holdings)
wc = world connect

ODLC= Oregon Donation Land Claim (you might also see a few dlc's for Washington, as they were part of the Oregon Territory at the time)

a county name and MC= marriage certificate within the Archives holdings
a county name and MR = marriage record, usually from a publication

ODI= Oregon death index

a state abbreviation + di = usually refers to an online death index for that state

Again the list can get pretty long but these are some of the major ones.

Thanks for the feedback and contributions so far.
