Dear Rooters,
Sorry if my post to the list yesterday was not very clear.
The new release that I mentioned in yesterday's post has enhancements that were not available with the initial release. Specifically you can now click on tabs in the top portion of the "person profile" and see associated records or census records that relate to that person. What you see with the census are the entries from the federal census that we were able to find that relate to that individual. The associated records are mostly original records in the Archives holdings that relate to that person. You can request copies of these records from our Reference staff and a link is provided in the associated records window.
The URL for the Early Oregonians database is:

Before Christmas I am hoping we will have another release that will include enhanced search functions that will allow you to search for an individual using their parents names or their spouses names. This is particularly useful for searching for females. Our practice is to put females in the database under their maiden name. If the maiden name is unknown the surname is left blank. So now you can do more sophisticated searches if you know a married name and first name but not necessarily the birth surname.
Again if you have information on individuals that meet the criteria of "living" in Oregon prior to 1860 and you would like to share the information please send your message to the following email address:
