The State Archives are in Salem.
http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/reference.html
You can request by e-mail and they will return a digitial copy. The charge is higher than going to the Archives and copying it yourself but if getting there is a problem, that works. Perhaps you were thinking of Eugene in terms of going to the Lane County courthouse. If you request it by e-mail reference.archives at state.or.us, I believe you can ask them to give you an estimate in advance (minimum $10 by e-mail). You will need to give them the case file # and info contained here.

I believe that Glen Jones was offering to check it out for you when he goes to the Archives in the next couple of weeks or so.

The Oregon State Archives have Death certificates up to 1957 I think that is the year, Available, after that you have to go to the Oregon vital records.
I do not know where you live and if you can get there to the Archives, I do have to go down there and hope to in the next couple of weeks, Health problems hopefully will not hold me up, and will see what I can find for you.

Thank you Les, Sue and everyone,
I can manage internet genealogy, but when it comes to "real genealogy research" on foot, in libraries, courthouses and graveyards, I'm an ignorant newbie. I didn't know that estate meant the estate papers. That's kind of exciting!
My parents have 25 years of real research done and I'm searching the internet for more information. But I'm the one doing my husband's research and needing to know how to do the courthouse stuff. Now I'm working, making it hard to get to Eugene during the week. I just may need to use www.raogk.org They've been wonderful in the past.
Thanks for your know how and help.
Happy New Year!
Ronda

His estate papers are available at the Oregon State Archives. Never know
what kind of info you'll find there.

Hi everyone,
My husband's gg grandfather William Alexander Brewer died in Lane County in
1859. Is there a death certificate that early or any way to find out the
cause of death?
Thanks,
Ronda
