Glen;
I am very confused about the whole DNA thing. I have seen several online
discussion where the contention is that about all DNA can tell you is that
you are or are not of certain racial heritage and from which regions your
specific racial heritage(s) are from. The contention is that most of the
outfits offering to tell you who your ancestors were from DNA are like a
some of the professional geneologists in the late 19th century who would
"prove" your connection to whatever royalty you were under the delusion you
were descended from.
I know there are certain basic facts that can be proved through DNA about
whether or not certain individuals are connected in certain ways, but what
the real limits are is a little vague.
I know one of our cousins ran his DNA thru National Geographic with respect
to our Tack family (now there is a surname to make you pull out your hair
searching for) and if I understand him what he found out is our common
ancestors were all over eastern Europe and SW Russia.
His Uncle was hoping the results would prove our connection to the House of
Tuek or whatever, but I guess all it really proved was our ancestors like to
sow their seed.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has had dna testing to prove your
ancestry? It seems to
me that your AMERICAN ancestry can be proved, but I'm reluctant to believe
that anyone
can do dna testing on someone who has been dead for, say, 700 years????
