Paul;
I grew up in Cottage Grove which is just south of Eugene; as high schoolers
we used to "cruise the gut" which was Willamette from about 6th st up to
about south Eugene High, another words right through the middle of the old
home place. I live on the coast now, but have family all over Lane Co and
frequently go there as it is the closest place that you can buy some things
and I like to visit family now and then.
What about the Encyclopedia of Illinois;
Anonymous
Historical encyclopedia of Illinois
Chicago: Munsell Pub. Co., 1913, 1102 pgs.
I already abstracted about a hundred pages of that one, so I can send it if
you'd like.
and another Carroll county book, though it may have the same stuff;
R M A Hawk
The History of Carroll County, Illinois : containing a history of the
county, its cities, towns, etc., a biographical directory of its citizens,
war record of its volunteers in the late rebellion, general and local
statistics, portraits of early settlers and prominent men, history of the
Northwest, history of Illinois, map of Carroll County, Constitution of the
United States, miscellaneous matters, etc.
Chicago: H.F. Kett & Co., 1878, 488 pgs
For some reason the book I mentioned earlier seems to have disappeared??
Hopefully I can find it some other way, but it didn't turn up in the same
search it did last time??
Les

Yes I have the Carroll Co. book. Joseph is my second great grandfather and
he is the brother of Daniel R Christian. That is my link, a 2nd great
uncle. Daniel Sr was Revolutionary War Vet. my 4th great grandfather, or
Daniel R's grandfather.
NARA in Seattle has the plat maps, I did an overlay of the 17s/3w and the
18s/3w maps and can see the 200 acres using the river as a reference and it
was just below Eugene Skinners tract which was along the river to the north.
Do you live in Eugene? Your knowledge of this area is very good. Daniels
old house was moved from the exact original location, to widen Pearl st.
but now is on 170 E 12 th Ave. I have pictures of both Daniel and
Catherine. Really cant wait to visit the historical society at Lane County.
They have a nice collection on this subject.
Paul
