The original book is huge (14x18"), while the reproduction is 8.5x11.
Therefore the difference between the two, as regards detail and color, is
significant.

I have a copy of the 2004 reproduction, which is very nice (falling apart
because I use it so much). The maps that I'm reproducing would be more for
putting on your wall. The map I just finished is the one on pp 6 & 7. On
the color copy you can tell the boundaries of the counties, for example.
And, as I mentioned, I didn't scan the charts, bios, and pictures, because
just the maps took eight hours. This is a very labor intensive operation.
Maybe next time I go to Oregon I can do the rest.

By the way, my local print shop (Reproductions, Inc) just gave me a price of
$14 to print it on glossy paper. That takes care of that! Whew! No hinges.
Maybe I'll have them do one on glossy and one on matte - which would be more
like the original.

The Marion County Historical Society in Salem has reproduced the
"Illustrated Historical Atlas Map of Marion and Linn Counties of 1878." I
wonder if that is the same one that you copied?

Their reproduction of the book is very nicely done and can be purchased from
the Society. I bought mine a few years ago, and do not remember the cost. It
is in not in color but sepia, however. Mimi Stang
