That's really funny. When I was growing up here is Southern California we used to make fun of the people who came from the east and slaughtered our Spanish town and street names. One of the favorites was San Josie pronounced properly San Hoesa spelled San Jose. Sepulveda proper Su pul vada usually pronounced by the easterners as Sep ul Veeda. I could go on and on but you folks have your own tricky towns and rivers.

I do know how to say Umatilla and Willamette.
Don't feel bad about mispronouncing something, I was in the eighth grade before I realize the Vilahmut river was one I was crossing that said Will uh metty on the signs. I was a real prodigy!! Ever been down the Swee slaw river or seen the light house at Heck etta head? And I live on the Um puke uh river. All those were from one newcomer radio station announcer in the '50's. He probably increased the station listnership 20 or 30 percent for at least a year just from folks tuning in to see what he'd butcher next. Boy did I get flak for pronouncing the second "e" in Del Norte
last summer!
