That’s sure a lot better than how my sister and I got our names. My mother was a huge comics fan and two of her favorite comics in the early forties were “Flash Gordon” and “Terry and the Pirates” So, I got the name Dale Arden (Flash’s girlfriend) and my sister really got stuck with Terry Lee (that was Terry and the Pirates name). Both of us were constantly put in boy’s P.E. classes, etc.

My daughter always likes to tell people how she got her name. While pregnant with her, I was visiting a cemetery looking for relatives. My husband got a little bored and was wandering around other parts of the cemetery. On the way home, he mentioned a name that he had seen on a gravestone that he liked - Syrena. I liked the name but said I wanted a simpler spelling - Serena. Years later my daughter and I went back to the cemetery and found the gravestone and took a photo of it.

Hi Barbara
I too knew a male Carol in So. Oregon. His wife was named Jackie. There waa also another female Carroll that I knew but it is unusual. That spelling is a last name and very popular in the South as I think there was a Gen. Carroll in the CW, a Confederate. I think my great grandmother had something to do with the spelling as she was b in VA in 1852 and her father fought for the South. Mom would never acknowledge that might be where she got the spelling as that was from my Dad's side of the family. She just said she saw it on a florist's sign in Portland, OR and thought it was pretty. I guess it was better than the April she was planning on naming me.
Carroll Cooper Summers
Carroll,
I know of a Carol (male). I will bet that he had a lot of trouble with his name, too.

The first time I remember heaing about the Hogg sisters was as a joke on a 1930's radio show as a joke. Unfortunately, I my 80 year old brain doesn't recall just what the show was. I do, however, remember what fun all of the neighbor kids had with the names.
Carroll Cooper Summers (Carroll is an unusual spelling for a frmale and has given me many headaches over my lifetime)
