Seeing all of these interesting names has made me realize that my family
isn't the only one that had strange or intersting names.
I have a Delight Powell; siblings St. Elmo, St. Clair, and Zelda Powell;
Speedy Powell, Elfleda Powell; Seraphine, Seraphina, and Sophronia Powell;
and of course, Haddassah Powell, a good bliblical name from the story of
Esther in the Bible. Orange Powell; Orion Alvarado Powell. Some of these have
made me wonder what or who was in the spotlight at the time they were born.
Of these names, some are from the early 1700's clear on up to the late
1800's.
I figured out a long time ago that even though the name Rowland Powell
shows up generation after generation it doesn't mean that anyone with the name
Rowland Powell is from my family tree. I had a great uncle that did some
research 50 years ago that had the John Wesley Powell of Grand Canyon
exploring fame as being in our family tree. According to my research his father,
place of birth and year of birth (which seem to be well documented) makes
it impossible for him to be in my tree unless we go back to merry olde
England.

I’ve seen the name Permelia as well. A Permelia married a Hodson back in
Iowa if I remember correctly.

Peninah is an unusual name. Reminds me of one in my background that seems
unusual as well: Permelia, or Pamelia as it is spelled in some census
records.
