Hi Leslie,
Think of the poor horse carrying a rider non-stop. I've been studying the 
Mormon migration too and the handcart companies actually made better time 
then the wagon trains - oxen aren't exactly speed demons and especially not 
when pulling a load.  Driving the wagon was no picnic either - no suspension 
to speak of either - walking was probably the lesser of evils - not that I'm 
in shape for the distances they covered daily.

You can set your e mail to not send the original text back when you reply - 
that way the inbox doesn't  load up as fast - and you can also set spell 
checker to snag typo's.

I'll work up some specific things I need help locating and toss them out to 
you folks who are MUCH closer to the source than I am. Thanks and Good Night
