All of the pioneer trails have a interesting history, that is why I joined the Oregon California Trails Association, they have collected Diaries and Letters by those traveling the Trails and have also marked the trails in the various states.

My Great Great Grandfather was here in Oregon before the trail, I have mentioned this before on the list, he was a mountain man and fur trapper that came out here in 1829, Married the Daughter of the Chief of the Lapwai Band of Nez Perce, through them we are realted to Chief Joseph, also his future brothers-in-law were Joseph Meek and Robert Newell, two other well known mountain men, I have not found when the earlist of my mother's family came out here, but her and her parents came in 1905, have family photos going back to that time period here in Oregon.

Oregon for it's 150 celebration has a book coming out April 8th called "Oregon at work 1859-2009" that will have some of my old photos in it, I have family and history all over the Northwest.

I love this discussion about the Oregon Trail. So many of us have ancestors that traveled that trail and I worry that the history of the trail over time is becoming diminished. My early Oregon ancestors - Cox, King, McCarty - all came to Oregon via the trail. They joined the many pioneers on their to Oregon in Missouri and were among some of the earliest to arrive here. I am very proud of my pioneer stock and am eager to finally begin to put that history together for our family. Gerry **************Need a job? Find employment help in your area.
