Darlene;

Maybe he just couldn't remember the names!! My mother almost always had to do a roll call to get to my name since I ma number 6, if she was perturbed with me she usually would interupt the roll call with "answer me you little turd, you know who I want!" since I was only child home.

Some of the family referred to my great uncle Morell as Rell. And I had a cousin in CA who they called Nellie; I think it was Elinore, but not sure we called my great Aunt Eleanor Nora and my mom; Marion was usually called Mal. I never thought about that before but I wonder if that was a joke on her by her next older sister since Mal in French means illness or some such. That would be just like Emmy Lou!

That last one really threw me, because one of my Grams correspondants seeming to sign her letters that way was named Louisa Matilda and I am still not sure if she really was signing her letter Emmy Lou or if I was just confused, but I know my Aunt was Emmy Lou. Someday I should post mom's poem about all my sibling being gone away.

The title is "The Grass Grows Green on the Path to the Can"

That's another that seems to be popular. My paternal grandmother was Mary Susan, but everyone knew her as "Mollie". Incidentally, my maternal grandfather called all his granddaughters "Mollie" regardless of our name!!
