Sometimes I really hate being in digest mode...
I'm replying to George, Les and Darlene regarding the Huntley's and Kings.
The William A. King you are referring to married Ellen Elizabeth Ward. The person you want to ask questions of is Charles "Chuck" King who lives just outside Myrtle Point. He has three family bibles of these folks and has been doing quite a bit of research on his family. Ellen Elizabeth Ward is one of the Ward's from Catching Creek here in Coos County, and William King is one of the Kings from King Creek in Bridge, Coos County.
Ellensburg is now the thriving metropolis of Gold Beach. The name was changed because of just the naming problems you have encountered, and named after the gold found on the beaches there and to the north.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Beach,_Oregon
Floras Creek is the name of one of the creeks in northern Curry county, which borders on Coos county. It was best know for the Floras Lake boom town which sprung up when someone wanted to open a channel between the lake and the Pacific. Their dilemma was that the lake was actually higher than the ocean, and opening the channel would have emptied the lake. One of Oregon's ghost towns was the result.
The definitive book on the Floras Creek area is called Floras Creek Precinct and the Boice family of Curry County :
featuring Cope, Guerin, Phillips & Strain families and other early
settlers / Patti Boice Strain, c. 2003.
[Copies of this book are available in all Coos County libraries]

And on William Allen King's father:
From "History of Clark County" pg.450/451.
Prominent among those who came to Johnson in an early day was Henry King afterward a noted physician both is this state and Oregon. His youth was spent chiefly in the employ of William How, with whom he lived a number of years, working on the farm, driving oxen, etc and utilizing his intervals of rest in the study of his favorite profession. In this he was encouraged by his employer who advised him to quit the farm and devote his attention to study, wgich Kin g did, although he was not what would now be termed an educated physician. For a number of years he had an extensive practice in Johnson and adjoining townships, but thinking there was a more remunerative field for his talents elsewhere, he left this part of the country and located in a th riving town near St
Louis, where for some years lhe carried on an extensive mercantile business in connection with his profession and became quite wealthy. He subseequently move to Oregon. The following incident , which he said was not to be told until he had been out of the country twenty-five years, is related by Mr. How. At one time he was called to a neighboring community to see a colore lady who was taken very ill, and twenty minutes after his arrival the woman was a corpse. That evening he met How, who inquired after his patient. "Oh" says the doctor, "I tried an exper;iment on the old lady by giving her an entirely new medicine." "With what effect?" said How. "Why, by G--d, it killed her in less than five minutes, but remember my reputation is at stake and this must be kept ;mum for twenty-five years at least." 1850 Clay Co. IL Census shows H.H., Maria, Lucy, Rufus, Louisa, Alfred, Wm, and Alvira. H.H. arrived in Oregon 10 Sept. 1854 and filled
for DLC (320 acres just east of Jefferson) 24 Mar. 1855. Certificate #3975
issued for 248.27 acres 26 Jul 1872. 1870 Census shows H.H. living alone
at Scio. The rest of the family living in Coos Co. H.H. Had stores in Jefferson, Tenmile and possibly Looking Glass. H.H. is divorced by Maria in Salt Lake City 26 Mar 1878, he then marries "Widder" Margaret Porter. In the final year of the Rogue River Indian Wars he served as a Private ( Co. Surgeon) in Company "D', 2nd Regiment, under Capt. James Blakely. Tour of duty 4th of April thru 3rd of Jul.
