I'm missing a lot of background info on this situation. I hope 'suspend' is 
the bright note meaning it will reopen at a later time. As far as fund 
raising  goes: how about a simple table with an easel with pictures of some 
of the exhibits set up at your local Wal-Mart. Around here they seem to be 
fairly lenient in giving permission for things like this. Bottle Drives work 
really great too. Explain it to your kids and have them get the word out - 
kids are great at networking that way. (okay, grandchildren for the rest of 
us)  Ask if you can put up a flyer at your place of work - again people with 
children that take them someplace other than the mall (where they will 
undoubtedly get wrangled out of a few dollars anyway) are good sources. Can 
you arrange a matching fund donation with local merchants? Board of tourism? 
Does yours charge admission or have a donation box? Are they tax exempt?
