I am related to the Belknap Family, Virgils Father Horace Preston Belknap was the third doctor Prineville, Oregon had and had a wide area he is wrote up in several history books, he had four sons and all four became doctors, One of my Grand Aunts was Married to Horace Preston Junior, and yes Prairie City is still called that, I hunt over in that area at times.

Roxanne Smith has created a marvelous website for Grant County at: http://gesswhoto.com/grant.htm. Prairie City is covered quite well there - I just went there to check it out & the names bring back such wonderful memories of our years there. You can find the Grant County Genealogical Society's president's name & email address at the bottom of that website. (I was a member when we started that society.) Years ago we visited my dentist, Virgil Belknap in Idaho, before we moved to Prairie City. He told me he was born there & indeed his father was a prominent Prairie City doctor. My little granddaughter used to call it "Pretty City" and that's very appropriate! Grant County people are wonderful & I miss them. ~Gerrie In a message dated 11/20/2009 12:44:18 P.M.
