Hello!
I am looking for info on Mrs. Gideon R. Browne of Pendleton. I just stumbled across her name in an article that lists her as one of the women who operated a garnet mine in Wrangell, Alaska in the early 1900s. This is new information for me and it's exciting! The garnet mine was owned by the first all-woman corporation in the United States. Details can be found at www.WrangellGarnetLedge.com if you are interested.
Per the article:
"Mrs. Gideon R. Browne of Pendleton, Ore., is the owner of 2000 acres of wheat land in Alberta, Canada, and of two or three rnahces in Oregon; she goes to Alberta every year and transa all the business in connection with the handlling of her great wheat crop. "
This article was written in 1915 and appears in "An Alaskan Treasure" from the California's Magazine - Edition Deluxe. Most of the stories are about the Pan Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco.
Any information on Mrs. Browne would be appreciated. A photograph of her would be outstanding. :-)
Thank you!
