 Hello!

I am looking for info on Mrs. C.D. Sprague of Portland, Oregon.  I just stumbled across her name in an article that lists her as one of the women who operated a garnet mine in Wrangell, Alaska in the early 1900s.  This is new information for me and it's exciting!  The garnet mine was owned by the first all-woman corporation in the United States.  Details can be found at www.WrangellGarnetLedge.com if you are interested.

Per the article:
"Mrs. C.D. Sprague of Portland, Ore., has operated her own silver mine in Montana and is well posted in the game of mining; she was in fact, a pioneer in the Montana mining camps. She has spent a great deal of time at the garent company's camp, having directed things there for one year, during the government survey."

This article was written in 1915 and appears in "An Alaskan Treasure" from the California's Magazine - Edition Deluxe.  Most of the stories are about the Pan Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco.  The women had an exhibit there that was quite a hit with the public.  

Any information and even a photo on Mrs. Sprague would be appreciated. I have a hunch that she may have remained in Wrangell as the last name sounds familiar so I'm going to go back thru my databases to see if I can find her.

By the way, this article was found through a search of Google Books by a friend who decided to do another search of info on the women.  I was stunned to see this article!  I haven't searched online for at least a year or so.  I mention this only because it appears that more books are being added to Google's site so if you haven't searched that resource in a while you may want to check it again.  This article provided more names and more details than I had before and confirmed other details that I knew and identified the woman in a photo that I have carried with me since I first started researching the women 30 years ago.  What a find!
