Most of you have heard of my Howard dilemma: My husband's grandfather
Charles Howard was a forger. I have 4 first names and 4 last names for him.
Charles Howard and Edward Barrett were the most often used. He was born
about 1885 in Kentucky. The 1930 census says his first marriage was when he
was 26, which would be about 1910. I am looking for a possible wife for him
in Walla Walla. Edward Barrett was discharged from Oregon Penitentiary in
August of 1910. Charles Howard was convicted of burglary in Walla Walla on
4/7/1911, giving him 8 months out of prison. I have a letter from a
California sheriff asking WA officials if the finger prints are the same.
They concluded they were.
I found a Walla Walla marriage record:
Charles L Howard - Anna C Wolff - Walla Walla Marriage Records
Record Series: Marriage Records
Collection: Walla Walla Marriage Records
County: Walla Walla
document no.: eawwmru2671
groom's name: Charles L Howard
bride's name: Anna C Wolff
marriage date: Dec 25 1910
filing date:
county: Walla Walla
notes:
The Archival Assistant who helped me find this record said the age for
Charles Howard was 35, 10 years too old.
I found Anna Wolff in Walla Walla in the 1910 census, age 28.
Charles Howard married Rachel Brewer in 1915, fathered a son (my
father-in-law) before he stole his Father-in-Law's horse, sold it as his
own, was caught and sent to the Oregon Penitentiary. He abandoned the
family. I'm hoping to find out whether he had the same pattern and fathered
another child before my father-in-law.
Do you think that the Charles Howard who married Anna Wolff is probably my
guy. And how would I track down this Anna Wolff's descendants to ask them
if she had any children in 1910 - 11?
I'm stuck and would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Ronda
