According to MacArthur, Lena was mnamed by "J.S. Vinson and and C.E. Hinton, local residents. It was understood that the name was selected because it had a pleasing sound. . . . .Lena post office was established June 11, 1873, with Hinton postmaster and closed August 31 1942."
Again from MacArthur: "Vinson was named for John Sackett Vinson, a pioneer settler who once ran a store in the community. . . . A post office named Butter Creek was established at this place on July 28, 1873, with J.S. Vinson postmaster. The name of the office was changed to Vinson on September 15, 1881, and finally closed November 30, 1907."
Hope this helps.

I have just discovered family connections to the communities of Lena, Morrow County and Vinson, Umatilla County. They neighbor each other on the back road from Heppner to Highway 395. Can someone look them up and give me the short version on how each got its name?
