Dorothy Lorene Powell

Thank you, so much for your help!!!! I called a second cousin, to confirm the groom's name, and he said that was right. As he's abit older, have to juggle the memory abit. Me, I can't use that excuse, but I'll try. I went to WA. archives and found that 10 Feb. 1934, this groom marries again. I still have to get ahold of the right dept. to confirm the passing of Dorothy, but you have gotten me alot closer!!! I thank you again for your help, Laura

Laura

No
success on Laura, but on Ida, we have:

Name:
Powell, Ida

County:
Umatilla

Death
Date: 28 Mar 1938

Certificate:
82

Spouse:
George

Ida,
Dorothy and George appear on the 1920 census of Linn County. Ida is divorced.

Dorothy
is 4 11/12, when the census was done on 3d and 5th January, 1920,
which gives her a DoB of about Feb 1915.

Unfortunately
the Oregon Death Index doesn’t have DoB’s much for deaths as early as the
1930’s.

And,
I don’t see any Oregon Marriages after 1920.

If
you think she was married in Umatilla, you might write to the Court House there
and ask. Once you have a married name, you can go from there. If she
married at age 16 or 17, she would surely have had parent(s) permission. Or have gone over to
Walla Walla like my grandmother did when she was 13 and needed to get married.
Washington didn’t have an age requirement at that time.

Dorothy Mae Powell

Hi, I posted a few days ago, but haven't seen it come up.

I'm trying to track this lady. I had her, her mom, Ida Mckinley, brother,
George William, and an uncle, Walter Pugh on the 1930 census for Pendleton,
OR. I believe the dad was George b. Powell. I can't find what
happened to dorothy. The mom d. 1938, brother, 1995, the uncle,
1955. I've been on the OR. archives, the LDS, the Umatilla co., site, and
a bunch more. I think she married, and died in 1933. Any ideas????
Thanks, Laura

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/

and type in dorothy powell and select marriages,

It lists parents etc. and that is because she married in a time when details like that were included, the 1938 Spokane cert on same page just gives names.

I have just discovered family connections to the communities of Lena, Morrow County and Vinson, Umatilla County. They neighbor each other on the back road from Heppner to Highway 395. Can someone look them up and give me the short version on how each got its name?

Lillian, you are quite correct. The county is
necessary to the research for death certificates. However the person did have
the county, date and cert. #. I was just noting how the certs were filed at the
archives as it is much easier to find them if you know they are by date rather
than by cert. #. In the end, she ordered the cert rather than going to the
Archives so the information was unnecessary to her, but perhaps useful to others
who might be doing their own research.

Thank you for noting the need for the
county.

Carroll (Cooper) Summers

When I was searching at the Archives in
Salem for death certificates I needed to know what
county they were in.

Just a wee tip - the death certificates are filed
by DATE, not by certificate #. However, it is helpful if you are requesting
a copy to give both date and cert. #.

Hello
all.

I have a gr.gr.gr. grandmother who is buried at Multnomah Park
Pioneer Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Mary is buried in a plot next to
her daughter, Isabelle Jane Boyd. My father and I visited the grave this
past Sunday. Here's the basic information on Mary:

Mary A (Ann) Barnett (maiden name Carr)

Born March 4, 1831

Died July 8, 1908 in Portland

I am having difficulty finding her death certificate. I searched
online indexes at the following to no avail: Oregon Archives, Oregon
Vital Records/Death Index, Genealogical Forum.

Are you able to find anything? Thank you in advance for your
help.

I'm sorry. I was hoping someone might have a quick answer on who the two communities were named after - which of the Vinsons was Vinson named after, and who was Lena. I drive through the two communities, and I have relatives in both their cemeteries, I discovered this week, but I don't know the history of either community.

I should have been clearer.
