Nancy;
I think everyone has mostly wandered into their non Oregon stuff and the fact we
chatted enough to upset some folks didn't really inhibit, we just all got to
that point where we needed to consolidate our gains.

I have
a question; can anyone find out if there was an obituary published for Ennis
Keizer?

I
found his death notice in the Coos Bay paper The World stating he died on 20
December 1998, but couldn't find an obit all the way into January. I would have
thought his death would have been significant enough for a front page item, but
found nothing. The obits are paid items and some of my family is notorious for
being cheap, so maybe the Keizers didn't feel the need.

Nancy,

I have seen some of that information, but not the obit entry. That is
exactly what I was looking for. I spent about four hours going through two
reels at the library. The first reel was stupidity on my part as I knew he
had to have been buried sometime in late December since that was when the
final disposition of the grave was dated. For some reason I didn't think to
ask the young lady at the cemetery office what his burial date was or that
of Frances.

The board membership entries are all over the internet, I got about fifty
hits or more for Ennis Keizer when I searched for him and almost all of them
were for that. Except either one or two obits, I think I got one for a
brother and one for a son, or some such.

Thank you very much, I can go back and look again, I tend to nod off when
skimming the film rolls and probably slept through that date.

Hi Bill,
I hope so. Like Viola I enjoy the chatter coming in from all parts of
Oregon and outside of Oregon. I like the information too. I don't think we
stray too often into non-genealogical subjects.

I have Buhr cousins. My uncle was Raymond Paul Buhr b May 1924 in Mt.
Angel, OR. His Father was John Nickolas Buhr who married Clara Reidhaar.
Any connections to your Burrs?

Nancy found my obit for Ennis indexed at;

http://www.orgenweb.org/coos/index.htm

For those doing Coos (and some Curry) research that hasn't visited this site
lately or especially at all I suggest giving it a go. A lot of stuff added
since last time I looked there, or esle I just didn't look.

I found a whole bunch of stuff abstracted from Dodge on Phoebe's Wilson
family I didn't have including a couple of wives.

The location does not exclude it, but I don't recognize any of the
names, which also doesn't mean anything other than I don't recognize any
names and there were a whole bunch of these people -- large families of
of children who each have large families and after three generations
that's 1500 people, sorta, and I maybe know 300 or so in one branch out
of 12.

When the Sam and Rosetta Burr family left Kansas in 1909 for Oregon, it
was reportedly to make their fortune logging. They would seem to have
been subsistence farmers in the early days, logging when the work was
available, with seasonal trips to the Yakima area of Washington State to
pick apples. After stays in several places in southwestern Oregon, they
eventually settled in the Silverton area, and the family spread out from
there. Sam and Rosetta are buried in unmarked graves in the Pioneer
Cemetery in Salem. Their son Robert Orrin's wife, Ruby Mae (Casebolt)
Burr, was my grandmother Strickland's sister, and I am somewhat familiar
with this branch of the family.
A couple twigs on this family tree have achieved a certain notoriety in
the food world.

And since a couple folks have asked, this is the Oregon emigrant family --

Samuel Henry Burr, probably the son of Ezra Burr and Angelina Flemming,
was born on 12 Aug 1859 in IA. He died on 28 May 1934 in Silverton,
Marion, OR from a "sudden death -- probable coronary troubles"; an
autopsy was "not allowed". He was likely buried on 30 May 1934 in an
unknown and unmarked grave in Salem Pioneer Cemetery, possibly in the
same lot as his wife.

Samuel married Rosetta Simpkins, daughter of Noah Simpkins and Rebecca
Bennett Aturbary / Atterberry, on 12 Aug 1882 in Vernon County, MO.
Rosetta was born on 11 Nov 1864 in Illinois. She died on 21 Feb 1933 in
Deaconess Hospital, Salem, Marion, OR from following a herniotomy for a
"strangulated umbilical hernia with gangrene of ileum". She was buried
on 1 Mar 1933 in Salem Pioneer Cemetery (lot FA 12, sp 2 SW), Hoyt &
Commercial St, South Salem, Marion, OR.

They had the following children:
     i. Levatta Alvena Burr was born in Jan 1884 in MO.
Levatta married a VanSickle before 14 Jun 1900. VanSickle died before 14
Jun 1900.
Levatta also married a Scott and a Jordan and perhaps others.
ii. Robert Orrin "Bob" Burr was born on 13 Mar 1885/1886. He
died on 14 Mar 1967.
iii. Charles Frederick "Charley" Burr was born in Sep 1887 in MO.
He died in 1951 in OSH, Salem, Marion, OR. He was buried in Bethany
Pioneer Cemetery, Silverton, Marion, OR.
iv. Samuel A Burr was born in Aug 1889 in MO.
     v. Celia A Burr was born in Nov 1891 in MO.
vi. Otis B "Oat" Burr was born in 18 Jul 1893/1892 in MO. He died
in Jun 1968. Otis married Alva [Burr].
vii. Donald T "Don" Burr was born on 8 Jun 1895. He died on 30 Jul
1977.
viii. Alvis "Ben" Burr was born in Mar 1898 in Hamilton, MO. He
died in a Salem hospital. He was buried in Salem.
ix. Alvin A "Duck" Burr was born in Mar 1898 in MO. He died in
1950 in OSH, Salem, Marion, OR. He was buried in Bethany Pioneer
Cemetery, Silverton, Marion, OR.
     x. Ida Burr was born about 1903 in KS. She died in Marshfield.
Ida married Fribbey? Tribbie? [Fribley, Freeby].
xi. Orville? Theodore "Ted" Burr was born on 22 Feb 1905 in
Burden, Cowley, KS. He died on 26 Dec 1966. He was buried in 29 Dec
1966? in plot SO 2289, Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah
/ Clackamas, OR.
