None of the Cooper's in Independence cemetery are  mine. I have mine all 
accounted for and none were in this part of Oregon. GrGr  grandparents, 
Nathaniel Parda Cooper married Sophia Lucinda Cowles  in 1835  in Pultneyville, NY 
in 1835. They had my gr grandfather, Hulburt DeWitt Cooper  in 1836 in PA 
(somewhere). Second son was James FitzJames Cooper, b 1839 in  Frankfort, KY. 
They were in Iowa, Wash. Co. by 1843 until 1860 where they had  several 
daughters and one more son, Theodore Henry (Harry) Cooper. Moving on to  CO by 
1862 they settled there near Ft Collins until Nathaniel died in 1870. A  
couple years later all of the boys, one sister and Sophia were in Jackson  Co., 
Oregon. My grandfather, Guy Colin Scott Cooper was b in CO in 1872. James  
was a school teacher, DeWitt a farmer. In 1884 Sophia made a land purchase 
in  Baker co. near Weatherby. She died there in 1893 and is buried on her 160 
 acres, high on a hill overlooking the Burnt River, Hwy I-84 and the 
railroad,  all of which run  north to south, through the middle of what was her  
land,. This was also a part of the pioneer trail from Idaho to Baker City. 
Last  Oct. a son took me to Baker City where we found a great many documents 
and were  also able to contact the people who now own a part of her land. 
They took us  up  their private road, through their private gate and way up on 
a hill, so  high the big rigs looked like little toys. There we saw the CW 
headstone for  James. It reads: Com. Sgt. (Commisary Sergent), Co. M, 2nd 
Colorado Calvary with  his initials of J.F.J. Cooper. There was no date but he 
died, never having  married, Dec. 25 IBible record) or Dec 26 (Military 
record), 1889. My  grandfather was the only Cooper male from the three brothers. 
He and his father  ended up in Portland around 1906 and both are buried at 
the Multnomah Park  Cemetery at 82nd and Holgate in Portland. All of my 
Cooper's are accounted for  and none are related to other Oregon Cooper's. There 
were several sisters who  are also accounted for and have been in touch 
with descendants of the youngest  one, Edmonia Cooper Ryan whose daughter Grace 
married a Himmel - lived in  Silverton. Just wanted to set the record 
straight - No Julia in our  family.

There is  a "J.S Cooper Block" in Independence, OR. The building/s are of
brick. The  building fascinated me and I have made a drawing of it as it  
looks
today. This is not, however, a part of my Cooper  line.

thought I would mention my Coopers are  the ones who made the big Cooper
brick company in Independence  Oregon.
There is also a very large Cooper headstone in the cemetery out  there,
not sure if it is one of my Coopers  tho.
