[or-roots] Disappearing Nichols Boys

My friends on OR-Roots have been so successful at the 1860 census challenge that I thought I'd inquire if anyone has knowledge of two missing Nichols boys in my family branches.  I recently located the parents obituaries in the Polk County Observer but they were essentially unhelpful, in regards to what became of the boys. John Parrott Nichols lived in Oregon his entire life but I have not been able to locate his marriage record.  Nor have I been able to locate the boys in 1900.  Happy to hear if someone else has some ideas.

[9]Mr. Parrott Nichols died at his home near Falls City on Tuesday morning, after a long illness.  He was about 45 years old, and was a native Oregonian.   Polk County Observer 23 Sep 1898 3-2.
