Les

This one should be of particular interest to you:

"Hon John S. Zieber was born in Pottstown, Montgomery county, Pennsylvaina,
May 14, 1893, where he resided with his parents until he arrived at the age
of sixteen years, when it became necessary for him to learn a trade, and he
chose that of printing....." "...In 1846 he sold his newspaper and retired
from politics but remained in business in Peoria (Illinois) until April 19,
1851, when he disposed of his property and started with his family across
the plains to Oregon." "Mr. Zieber immediately went to work at his trade in
the Oregon Spectator newspaper office, and afterwards in the Oregon
Statesman..." " In March or April, 1856, Mr. Zieber received the appointment
of surveyor-general, which office had been removed to Salem by his
predecessors. This induced Mr. Zieber to move his family to Salem, which was
quite an accession to the society of that small city. At this place Mr.
Zieber's eldest daughter married Mr. Bush, now a banker in Salem....Mr
Zieber was the father of six children, tgwo boys and four girls, the eldest
being hon. Albert Zieber of Portland.

John S. Zieber, who was formerly a clerk in the surveyor-general's office
and afterwards secretary of the Willamette Woolen Manufacturing Co., a
position he held until a short time before his death in 1862...
Mrs. Euginia Bush, the eldest daughter, died in 1862.
In 1870, Miss Zula Zieber, the youngest daughter was removed by death just
when budding into womanhood...
At the age of 75 years and 6 months Mr Zieber was stricken down with
paralysis, November 12, 1878, and within two short hours passed away from
all earthly care to join his children who had gone before....

Pat;

I see from your index that the book has almost no names from my family file.
The only thing I see that might remotely interest me are the names John
Zieber who might be the father of Albert Zieber whose daughter Mable is
probably the wife of, okay scratch that I am quite sure they are related.
Mable is in John and Eliza's house in the 1870 census.

Charlotte;

I would need to know more to be certain if there is a connection. Here is a
short version of the family tree;

Generation No. 1

1. THOMAS DOVE1 KEIZER1 was born 1793 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina1,2,
and died 1871 in Oregon3. He married MARY GURLEY3 1813 in North Carolina3.
She was born 1793 in North Carolina3, and died 1853 in Marion Co., Oregon3.

Notes for THOMAS DOVE KEIZER:
Keizer family researcher: Dan Keizer, states that Keizur was preferred
spelling when the family arrived in Oregon. From Oregon in 1843 which see.
Places of birth for children based on time frame from "Oregon Geographic
Names" with help from Census records. Les C. 2006

Generation No. 2

3. JOHN BROOKS2 KEIZER (THOMAS DOVE1)51,52 was born 27 October 1824 in
Cabarrus, Cabarrus Co., North Carolina52, and died 11 April 1870 in Salem,
Marion Co., Oregon52. He married MARY JANE HERREN52 27 March 1851 in Marion
Co., Oregon53, daughter of JOHN HERREN and DOSHA ROBBINS. She was born 17
January 1832 in Decatur Co., Indiana54,55,56, and died 10 May 1909 in Salem,
Marion Co., Oregon57.

Children of JOHN KEIZER and MARY HERREN are:

vii.	JOHN BROOKS KEIZER, JR.77,78, b. 07 April 1870, Marion Co.,
Oregon79,80; d. 08 August 1927, North Bend, Coos Co., Oregon; m. MABLE
ZIEBER81,82, 01 December 1908; b. 20 December 1863, Salem, Marion Co.,
Oregon83,84; d. 04 April 1946, Coos Co, Oregon.

Obviously this is incomplete and I don't know where the name Brooks comes
from, keep in mind there is a Brooks, Oregon; "Marion County, this is a
station on the main line of the SPRR nine miles north of Salem. It was named
for Linus Brooks who wqs b. Ohio in 1805 and came to oregon from illinioi in
1850 and settled near the present site of the community. For additional
information about the Brooks family see editgorial page of the Oregon
Journal 25 June 1927." OR geog name 5th edtn pg 85

I have the Brooks name in my family line, but that surname drops out at my
?g grandmother Mary Brooks ma Jonathan Melvin in 1750 in NH.

Hi, I have a ?? about this John Brooks Keizer ,,, Is he related to the
John Brooks that was an early settler at Likley Ca?? Maybe his mom could
have been a daughter?? of John Brooks, and Samantha Piat Brooks. Just
grabbing at straws.

Thanks Charlotte
