[or-roots] Face book security

Dan;

I would be very sceptical of any assurances of FB "security," about the only
thing you can be secure with on FB is knowing they are going to change the
rules to allow more internet advertisers access to you and your pages on a
regular basis. I think it is safe enough to view a link to a page there but
even that I can't guarantee. Fortunately I have enough friends who are truly
paranoid about their security that keep me on top of the changes and how to
defeat them. I personally don't worry about it but FB has a nasty habit of
encouraging you to give access to "all your friends" for things at the drop
of a hat and many of my friends do NOT appreciate it if I slip up and do so.

Patti and I are contemplating moving LUGS onto FB as an alternate presence
where we might have virtual gen soc meetings if enough interested folks are
there, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I wouldn't even be on FB except some dear cousins from the east coast
invited me and I have a hard time saying no to them. I don't regret it
because now I feel like I know these three young adults who were repectively
about four, two and unborn the last time I saw them in person.

The link I posted last night by the way doesn't involve Face book in any way
so it is "safe," well as safe as anything online can be.

I tried to access a Forest Service Web site a couple weeks ago for the
Portage Glacier visitors center as I was curious how deep Portage Lake was
(fact checking one of Aunt Nell's photo caps; she was right and I should
have known better) Uh, back to the FS site; AVG wouldn't let me access it
because it had a trojan virus on board. I finally resorted to sending an
email to Anchorage Times asking them if they would let FS know.

speaking of Alaska, if anyone has a connection to the Portage Whittier
neighborhood in the sixties and early seventies they might enjoy visiting
Aunties photos.

I had forgotten my cousin has restructured things so I am not sure where the
rest of the photos are but the above link will take you to her earthquake
story.

I have never gone to face book, I usually can messages asking me to.
Last time I went into My space we had to sign in, it took 3 years to stop
the My space adds and My friend invites from people I do not know.
Now I find in my messages on my group one fellow invited me to look at
face book and I told him why I would not go there, in the conversation, we
found out we have a Matney connection * and * I find out he has been into
high security and he says face book is safe. So go figure - I will now view
face book.
How ever since I am working on my own Oregon system and web sites I might
find a new use for it.
Now to those Powels - I know I have that book. I will make a strong point
this afternoon to find it and will do lookups from it. I know how important
even a tis bit scrap of info can be, what I find I will try to use my old
camera to get you a photo copy of the info.....
