Announcing updates to four of the South Coos County's Historic Cemeteries!
These new pages and updates to existing pages include:
-- Complete and up-to-date Cemetery Listings, based on the work of Alice
Wooldridge in the early 1970's, combined with research into the cemetery
records from the cemetery associations (where available) and by walking the
cemeteries and recording the headstones and memorials present
-- GPS coordinates and interactive maps for directions on how to find these
cemeteries
-- Cemetery plot maps, showing the location of headstones within these four
cemeteries, locations and GPS coordinates for major landmarks within the
cemetery and unmarked burials where cemetery records show someone was buried,
but no headstone exists.
-- "Hot links" on all of the graphics present on the page which can take you to
a map showing all of the publicly accessible cemeteries in Coos county; links
to Find-a-grave records where they exist, and others. Watch for your cursor to
change to a pointing hand and click to follow the links!
-- Many of the listings include obituaries or military affiliations
These four cemeteries are:
Catching Creek Pioneer Cemetery Listing Cemetery Plot Map
Coquille IOOF Pioneer Cemetery #1 Listing Cemetery Plot Map
Gravelford Pioneer Cemetery Listing Cemetery Plot Map
Upper Fishtrap Pioneer Cemetery Listing Cemetery Plot Map
This project was supported in part by a grant from the Oregon Commission on
Historic Cemeteries and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, which
allowed me to purchase a hand-held GPS and to provide funding for printed copies
of the cemetery maps placed in the Myrtle Point library as well as the
Amling/Schroeder Mortuaries. Additional listings and plot maps are forthcoming
for the Lee Valley, Coquille IOOF #2, Coquille Masonic and Norway Cemeteries.
This project has taken over two years to complete.
