[or-roots] common mistakes indexing 1940 census

just above the window you are transcribing into  is a tool bar and there are a couple of funny x buttons there one is blank field the other is blank line, what you want is to blank the whole line so click on that, then be aware you will have already blanked out the number field in the next line so you will have to type the line number in there again, notice you have to skip the number for the blanked line, don't start with the next number in the sequence.
also here is another handy tip, if you should happen to do like I did last night and skip a couple of families [got to bottom of census and had five lines left over] don't despair; to the right of the blank box and blank line button are some more buttons, one will delete a whole line [mouse over to read which  is which] and another one will insert lines. What I did was just inserted five lines where I had skpped people and then when I was don deleted the exxtra lines at bottom  of page, all I had to do to save the ten lines that I put in the wrong place was change the line numbers.
As to the T's that Barb has found that are so mystifying I seem to remember there being a poor farm in that neighborhood early in the century??  Barb, again if is is not a number in colum three, it doesn't go in column two of the transcription page  I got dinged for entering a 109.5 so it has to be whole numbers. It really should have been 108.5 and if not entered that way I think it should have been blank but whatever.
