I thought the list might find the following link to the National Archives web 
site of interest.
 
The short video walks you through the process to determine the enumeration 
districts which will allow you to access the 1940 census images on April 2, 
2012.

This site will be available for free, but is not a fully indexed version of the 
census.  (Several subscriptions sites will have the fully indexed version 
available at a later date.)
