Nancy, Redwood Ave. was the next "through street" north of Maple. My family moved from Maple Street to River Road in 1940 - so we are in a different place for the 1940 census. But I remember the house to which you refer very well - between that house and "mine" on Maple there was at that time a huge field which was replaced by a motel (I don't think it was still called a motor court at that time, but by time of WWII (the big one) my family had moved next door to the Fire Hall on Oak Grove Boulevard (now greatly enlarged and quite permanent) as my father was the volunteer fire chief. Your family was unique because they spoke French -
I well remember the Sunday morning (1943) a small fighter plane from the Portland Air Base crashed into the kitchen of Conger's house east of the Super Highway on Redwood and my father was in his car headed south toward Oregon City. He turned around and came back to the fire station and got out the ONE truck they had and my brother and I rode on the back of the truck holding onto the chrome bar with one hand each while we held tightly to the rope handles of the veneer box that represented the "First Aid Kit" for the Oak Lodge Fire Dept. I was probably 12 and my brother was 8. Good thing there was no OSHA or anything else, and my Dad was also a deputy sheriff.
We held on tight as the truck went onto the Super Highway and north two blocks to Redwood and up to the house which was on fire. The pilot was killed in the crash and the fire was extinguished and we probably rode home in the cab of the truck - or most likely, we walked!
If we ever had a house number I don't remember it - I think we all had post office boxes and picked up our own mail. (Ours was Box 111 - and all of the mail for the mayor, the fire dept. and the "Civilian Defense" for Oak Grove seemed to come to our box.) My father was chair of the school board when I graduated from 8th grade at Oak Grove Grade School so he even signed my diploma. At that point, I was worldly wise and ready to ride the streetcar every school day to Milwaukie Union High School

Yes, That's how I found the Super Highway they lived on, but it doesn't give a house # & it's next to Redwood drive?
In 1930 my grandfather was in Dayton, Columbia, Washington & widowed. Sometime between 1930 to 1940 he married my step grandmother.
Thanks, Nancy

Why does that subject line sound like I am asking about a TV show?
Nancy have you tried locating them in the 1940 Census, I haven't looked that close, but it might give you an address, I am sure we could pin down the location to within a block or two if they are at least identified by street name, I know some of the 1930 stuff I have looked at I could identify the exact block the houses were on and I think I have even pinpointed a couple of locations with she Sanborn maps that way.
