Les, that "strip" from Oak Grove Boulevard north to Courtney is an unfortunate collection of motley and dishonored places on the west side of the Super Highway, to say the least. The house I lived in, which was on the NW corner of Maple and King, before the Super Highway was built, was torn down after an unfortunate relative of the subsequent owners from my era hanged himself in the basement. For a time there was a restaurant attached to the front of the house before its demise, and that was replaced by a fast food drive in/by and that chain was defunct shortly after. 


Across Maple to the south, "adult" entertainment places replaced the former houses (which was ironic, given that one of the occupants of a house which is still visible behind the "adult" facade was the residence of a fellow subsequently convicted of sexual abuse of a child - - not quite the reputation his mother would have wanted for their house.) 


At that time, the center of town was farther west, along the streetcar tracks. I was ever so glad when my family moved to River Road. And yes, many street names were changed - some changed to names of the original land owners (Creighton comes to mind). As an unincorporated area, it was bereft of any planned development and cracker boxes were rampant during the 1930s and the "Great Depression" During and after World War II, uncontrolled growth was the result. A drive down "River Forest Rd." now is a shock - where there were once lovely homes of professional men and their families, there is now a nest of interesting houses and unlinked roads.

Now that Lyn has given me a fix on where exactly to look I am sad to say that doesn't show up on the Sanborn Maps. They run out just a mile north of that location in the 1928-36 version that I have available. Apparently Sanborn didn't consider Oak Grove worth their while, or it isn't in the data base I have available. One thing confusing the issue is a lot of street names have been changed over the years as well as connections which made it difficult for me to correlate. 


Incidentally Lyn, Sanborn must have used your cell phone to name the streets, they spelled it the same wrong way on their maps. 


And that neighborhood is now sort of a strip mall, no houses on the blvd any where near Maple.

Yes, That's how I found the Super Highway they lived on, but it doesn't give a house # & it's next to Redwood drive? 
In 1930 my grandfather was in Dayton, Columbia, Washington & widowed. Sometime between 1930 to 1940 he married my step grandmother.
