Josephine GROSS  African American female born Alabama about 1871-1873. 
I found her name  in her sister’s funeral notice.
Funeral Notice, Oregonian, Friday, 1  Dec 1944, p. 15, col. 4 
DONALD - Nov 29,  Nellie, aged 65 years of 1415 NE 1st ave; beloved wife of 
James S., sister of  Josephine Gross. Funeral services Monday, Dec. 4, at 
2:30 P. M. at the  Chapel of Miller & Tracey. Interment Rose City cemetery.

Found her in  1920 and 1940 censuses but haven’t found her in 1910 or 1930  
censuses
