What Dan experienced is what I was alluding to, but I was hoping not to scare too many people off; first rule of internet - if it's "too good to be true" it is most definitely a scam,
Rule two never give personal information to anyone,
rule three when you receive an email notifying you your bank, email account, face book account, stock brokerage, insurance or anything else "NEEDS TO BE VERIFIED" it is a SCAM, if you have the energy for it report it to the appropriate location, if not delete it.
Rule four; your "friends" in online social media may not always be friendly.
People say what I consider stupid things on facebook now and then and I unload. It can be a jungle out there, so if you are easily offended you probably would be better off not adding me to your friends list, I usually behave myself pretty well, but I am friends with some people who have a compulsion to push the envelope, and technically Facebook is supposed to be off limits to those under 18. For example the moderators of one of my friends page undoubtedly have a large faction of the Iranian Theocratic hierarchy actively attempting to identify them so they can order them killed.
I recommend in using any social media that you refuse all application requests, even though they may seem to be coming from friends of yours, they are usually really just a "bot" trying to lure you in. While most of them may be innocuous like the farm town etc games which are just big time wasters to try and get you to click repeatedly on pages where they have placed advertisements they charge a 1/1000 of a cent for every click on, some of them are specifically inimical and the easiest way to avoid those is avoid them all. If you really think you want to do one of them like birthday tracker or whatever, be sure at least part of your info is false.
You can see where i have been wasting a lot of my time better spent on genealogy.Les
Just know I support Stephanie's efforts and
values.
I would almost step on my toes and go there, to her
page.
Its a great urge. She is a very wonderful person to do all
she does.
I have let my website go for so long I almost dont believe
I wrote it.
Being a off grid new age pioneer I came out here and build
a home, by hand, with all scavenger hunted materials, Its took 4 years to get
this far and I am realizing in true time, just what a pioneer
faced.
Lets help her on. I just vented my face book
experience is a personal experience and not to take way visits from her. Her
site is valuable to all pioneers researchers. I cant stress enough just how
valuable, but I can say I sent a few folks there that told me they found
information on her website that was very helpful in their research. Gallery is
not as fancy as face book, but I dont have an alterier motive to scam people to
come for free like some places on the net. She could use gallery free on
her site and do the same thing I am doing.
That was what I forgot to mention.
Dan
