Oregon death certificates prior to 1961 (50 years or more since date of death) are available at Archives in Salem and cost of copying is 25 cents each.  The staff are very helpful if you are not certain of the county or the date.  If that information is known, the search is by county, by month, by year.  Death certificates prior to 1903 are not as complete because the law requiring state registry was not enacted until that year and not every county sent prior records and even for 1903-04 they are incomplete.  Some counties retained records prior to 1903 - but many records were lost or destroyed by fire depending on the county.  Information on parents is not always included on the death certificates depending on who the informant was or often, the circumstances surrounding the death.

Thank you.  I have order many of the $27.00 verson, but there is also an $11.00 version listed and i am wondering what that contains.  I am helping  a friend with very limited resources and she would hope can get info needed and save diference in cost.
