[or-roots] Degree Symbol???

I believe they represent  the appended thingamajiggers we use when speaking dates;14th day, 2nd month  and such, I find them in he first few pages of the Concord regisers, then a page or so of just 9 (12) 1644 etc and then the rest of the book is written with th appended sort of randomly to either the day or month, but only th up to page 7 where Uncle Robert started using 2th agust 1654 etc.  Judging by that it just represents th.

I was asked a question today that stumped me.  Go to the following link to see what I am talking about:

There is a symbol next to some of the numbers.  I would normally associate this symbol with temperature or degrees.  This doesn't make sense in the context of the information.  It must have something to do with the date the person was born.
 
Anyone know what it means?
