[or-roots] An interesting list of WWI draftees

Just for kicks, I checked a couple. I think the difference is between when
they registered (1917-1918) and when they were mustered (Aug 25 1918).

 

Earl Ray Burns, listed here as "Olympia, WA" shows up on the WWI Draft
Registration Cards at Ancestry as

Earl Ray Burns, b 19 Jan 1895, b Michigan, registered Lane County.

His home address is 1568 Orchard in Eugene.

He is a jeweler.

His father and mother are partly dependent. He is single. Dated 5 Jun 1917.

Is it possible that he was in Olympia by August 1918?  

 

Herman Wilgot Eck listed as being in Oakland, CA, was born in Minn, and
lived in Fall Creek, Oregon, when he registered June 5, 1917.

 

That would certainly explain alot.

Ran across this list of draftees for WWI from Lane county.. not sure why so
many of the men are from elsewhere, perhaps someone on the list can explain
it? But so many of the surnames were names I recognize from this list over
the years that I thought I would transcribe it and send it on.

Lane County to Send 78

Latest Contingent of Drafted Men Will Entrain August 27

Eugene, Or., Aug. 24 (Special) - The Lane County draft board has announced a
list of 78 men, to whom induction orders have been issued. The registrants
have been notified to report on August 27. The board gave no information
regarding the training camp to which the men will be sent, asserting that
its action was in keeping with the recent order of the Provost Marshal.
