Don’t always count on scanners.
If you want better scans of news papers, and black n white photos; use gray scale 256 colors. 
Try it.  Also set the resolution to scale.

      Sure hope she has a good OCR program, I can't figure out how to make my scanner do it at all, I am thinking maybe it is one of my other scanners that I use.

        Yes there are probably close to 500 or 600 pages in the folder.
