Just to give everyone a heads up we have at least on Oregon State Representative who is familiar with genealogy. He is a current member [20 + years] of a genealogical society that has traced his ancestors here in America back at least 250 years.

Rep. Jeff Barker (D), District: 028, 900 Court Street NE, H-480, Salem, OR 97301

Phone: (503) 986-1428, Fax: (503) 986-1591

Website: http://www.leg.state.or.us/barker/ E-Mail: Rep.JeffBarker at state.or.us

I offer this information to those on this list with the hope that as we contact our individual Senators and Representatives that we consider cc’s Representative Jeff Barker in the hope that he would share his personal experiences when discussing the merits of this legislation.

Eugene Melvin

PS I will be sending letters to my Senator Laurie Anderson (D) [District 25] and my Representative Christopher Gorsek (D) [District 049] besides cc’s Representative Jeff Barker.

Linda and others,

I posted to the list primarily as informational as it will affect researchers’ access to these records. Passage of the bill adds 25 years to the access restrictions for birth, marriage returns and divorce returns.

Layne,

What does this really say and how will it affect researchers? Is it your recommendation that we support this, or oppose it?

OR-Rooters,

I thought the list might be interested in HB2093 that is proposing changes in access to vital records in Oregon.
