Dan; I am not understanding the 25 a month or 25 years to get a Pioneer
or Early Settler from any one. The Oregon Genealogical Society does them for
$10 a name and you just have to prove that your people were here during
certain times. Just to clear something up that Barbara said is you have to pay
the $10 wither you are a member or not. Members do not get them for free.
So check out the Pioneer/Early Settler info at
oregongenealogicalsociety.org and see if it is something you want to do. The down load is free.

Not a problem on my proof ;) Got it several ways with many people on 3
trains maybe more, I just backed off because of the membership thing.
App is also on our gen web
http://www.orgenweb.org/deschutes/bend-gs/PioneerAppl-fillinform%2010-2010.p
df
My proof - that gun duel on the Applegate trail concerning Nesmith, over
the mule, that was my great grand father, turned out to be quite a note, him
and other family members since 1843 did a lot for Oregon over the years.
But, as a very limited income, I just cant blow 25 a month, so maybe I
miss read it.
I did see something like that on the website and in person in Fort rock
meeting.
But I bet, there is a lot more I can get into this once I learned about
all those things, I was stuck in rounding up the genealogy and people history
first - I have so much now I cant sort it all out lol <grin>

Dan go to the website http://www.oregongenealogicalsociety.org/. Under
the main menu in the left column click on Pioneer and early Settler
Certificates. They are $10. You have to provide your line back to the
pioneer--they send you the form.

That was the person I talked to a couple or more years ago.
Said we had to be paying members 25 a year or something.
I also had a small genealogy society, I am thinking about setting
something up out here in the little museum I am making. Why cant we make up our own
certificates?
Dan

Dan,
If you are referring to the Pioneer and Settler Certificates, I got mine
from the Oregon Genealogical Society in Eugene. I think the applications
are available on their website. There was a $10 charge per certificate, but
I didn't need to join the group. Of course, if you can join, and then get
the certificates at no charge, that might be the way to go.

Wish the wvgs would use the rootsweb list that is maintained for them.
I was going to go for my pioneer papers but they said we have to pay
yearly dues to get those and belong to group. Was not sure why that is forced
on pioneer people relations.
Is this the archive or the library across from the capitol building?

The short version is on WVGS's website December news Letter

went to the State Library and talked to them.
