>From the book listed by Layne, 6th edition, page 438-9: "Indian Valley is the flatland along Grande Ronde River just north of the mouth of Indian Creek, now largely occupied by the City of Elgin....Prior to 1885 even the present community of Elgin was called Indian Valley. However, Indian Valley post office was about three miles up Indian Creek from its mouth near where the pioneer road from Summerville to Cricket Flat crossed the stream. .The post office operated until October 26, 1881." There is more history there--if you want it I'll scan and send it to you Dale. Linda Wiley

I don't think they have a copy at my library but since I will be there on Saturday I will look for it. I have somehow lost my link to the Archives which I used to use all the time.
I recently did the Ancestry DNA test and a whole lot of my cousins are resurfacing from years past. I am having a ball.
Thank you too.
Dale
