You might try this records collection. Fred Lockley wrote for the Journal and collected ‘books’.

Diane; the best I can suggest is trying their contact us page online;
<http://www.oregonianmediagroup.com/about/journalists/> http://www.oregonianmediagroup.com/about/journalists/
this link should take you to a page and the first item on the list under the big banner across the page is administration, I would suggest trying that.
Tell them your story and they should be able to track down who might actually know the answer.

My late mother-in-law said that the journal of James Willis Hay was sold to The Oregonian by John Hay. James Will Hay being her grandfather.
James Willis Hay was born 1842 in Kentucky and died in Gold Hill, Oregon in 1926 and is buried in the Hay Cemetery as is his wife, Sophronia Cook Hay. Their son, John Hay sold the journal. Which caused an uproar in the family a few years later.
I have written to the Oregonian a couple of times, with no response.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find if the journal was actually sold to The Oregonian and if they might still own that journal? If this journal is still around?
Many thanks, Diane
