[or-roots] An Oregon question for a change.

One of the lines I have gotten extensive help from all of you folks on
in the past is my great Uncle Ed [Edvard] and his descendants. Of
course since they all went south around 1920 that involved some non
Oregon stuff but oh well.
Anyway my burning question is Aunt Ida's parents; where are they in
1870 for example. One daughter is with her parents in Shasta county in
the 1870 census and since some information I find indicates little
sister Maud Angeline was born in Shasta County it stands to reason
that John and Mary are there too. Her parents are in Horsetown, but I
searched that and several other precincts in Shasta county to no
avail. The index for 1870 CA turns up one John and Mary McCully that
are almost a match, but I am fairly sure it isn't them.
I spent a lot of time fruitlessly searching for his parents by
searching for him in 1860 etc census and then in the course of
searching for details on the family I found an obituary for Aunt Ida's
grandmother and herself. Turns out she was another Nancy and her grand
mother was living with her and Uncle Ed in Empire when the grandmother
passed away. Grandma died in January 1908 and Aunt Ida about a month
later in the same house. This eventually led me to an obituary for her
twin Sarah Ada (McCulloch) Belieu who is buried in the Civil Bend
Cemetery in Winston. For some reason I was looking at their place of
birth on the topo map and lo and behold there is a McCulloch cemetery
in the neighborhood which led me to the William Neely McCulloch family
who I am reasonably certain are John's parents.
Still not finding any more details on John and Mary I decided to see
what I could find on Maude and found her obit too. Some of the info I
got was from Finda grave and my apologies to all of you who detest
them; but there is often good info there. I found the death cert for
Maud's son in law posted there fore example . I need to go hat in hand
to the folks at Sunset Cemetery in Coos Bay and see if they have any
better information on Ethel though. I got her date of death from the
death index but haven't had time to search the Coos Bay papers yet to
see if I can find more on her birth.
OK; what I really was after that led me to all of this extraneous
information was a better timeline for John and Mary; I have him born
in 1839 in Iowa courtesy of Census info. I think he is alive at least
until 1887 from an article about a John McCulloch stage driver in
Brewster valley notes in the Roseburg paper, but have never gotten a
clue to his death. For her I have born about 1848 in Oregon and died
January 1894 in Oregon the latter from Finda Grave for Empire
Cemetery. I plan to ask the Sunset folks about that too, but suspect
they may not have anything. It is on Tribal land now as I understand
it. I hope to go view the cemetery at some point since several of the
family members are there.
here is what I have found for the first three generations as I have it
in my family file;
Descendants of William Neely McCulloch
Generation No. 1
1. WILLIAM NEELY1 MCCULLOCH1 was born 17 April 1808 in Davidson,
Tennessee1, and died 06 February 1895 in Olla, Douglas Co., Oregon1.
He married NANCY ANN JOHNSON1 11 August 1831 in Montgomery Co.,
Illinois2. She was born 09 August 1814 in Indiana3, and died 05
November 1890 in Olla, Douglas Co., Oregon3.

Child of WILLIAM MCCULLOCH and NANCY JOHNSON is:
2. i. JOHN WALKER2 MCCULLOCH, b. 1839, Iowa.
Generation No. 2
2. JOHN WALKER2 MCCULLOCH (WILLIAM NEELY1)4 was born 1839 in Iowa4.
He married MARY ELIZA OWENS4 18 June 1865 in Hyman Abraham's House.,
Roseburg, Douglas Co., Oregon5,6, daughter of THOMAS OWENS and SARAH
DAMRON. She was born Abt. 1848 in Oregon7,8, and died January 1894 in
Oregon9.
Notes for JOHN WALKER MCCULLOCH: I believe I have evidence he
is alive and in Oregon at least until June, 1887 as I find a
Review article on a Stage driver between Brewster and Coos City. It
could be a nephew, but I don't think so. See Brewster Valley
notes in the search directory. Les C 2016
Notes for MARY ELIZA OWENS: From Coquille Valley web site, cemeteries;
McCULLOCH,
Mary E. -- EMPIRE PIONEER
McCULLOUCH,
C. S. -- BANDONIOOF
Am going out on limb and using material including Mary's surname, from
web page on Douglas county marriages without confirming that I have
right people. Les C. 2006 I had thought that Mrs. John McCulloch in
the Roseburg Masonic Cemetery would be this Mary, but it turns out to
be a Nancy born in 1861. Les C 2016
Marriage Notes for John Mcculloch and Mary Owens: In 1860 Hyman
is in Roseburg, by 1870 he is in Oakland. Les C. 2013
Children of JOHN MCCULLOCH and MARY OWENS are:
3. i. NANCY IDA3 MCCULLOCH, b. 05 April 1866,
Olla, Douglas Co., Oregon; d. 19 February 1908, Empire, Coos Co.,
Oregon.
ii. SARAH ADA MCCULLOCH10,11, b. 05 April
1866, Olla, Douglas Co., Oregon12,13; d. 26 April 1946, Roseburg,
Douglas Co., Oregon14; m. JOHN EDWARD BELIEU15,16, 17 May 1905,
Marshfield, Coos Co., Oregon17; b. 16 February 1858, Oregon18,19; d.
31 October 1930, Marshfield, Coos Co., Oregon19.

Winston, Douglas Co., Oregon20
4. iii. MAUD ANGELINE MCCULLOCH, b. Abt.
November 1870, Oregon; d. 28 November 1948, Coquille, Coos Co.,
Oregon.
So in summary what I am seeking is better evidence of the birth and
death dates for John and Mary and their whereabouts in the 1870
Cennsus. If anyone has resources they think to bring to bear on other
issues they might want to ask first before they make the effort as I
have filled in most of the blanks in the rest of the family with
respect to Oregon research, though I need to do more work on the
Belieu line, but a lot of the latter is just coordinating the
information I already have.
Now to see if this will post.
