Layne, I am also extremely happy that you will be able to enjoy a very well earned retirement and I will always cherish getting to tour the archives on a Halloween tour and to meet you personally. You were even more impressive in person than as the list mom for so many years.
I do hope the list remains active and we have a new mom or dad to help everyone navigate the wonders of history and genealogy. But those shoes of yours, either the professional ones you wear daily.or the witches shoes from Halloween will be hard to fill.
Cheers!!

You will be much missed! Your knowledge is irreplaceable and your graciousness especially appreciated.
Happy retirement, sorry I never made it to the Archives this last year to say hello!

| OR-Rooters,
I know things have been quite on the list but I wanted to send a greeting to everyone and wish you all Happy Holidays. This year has really been one for the books.
The Archives still remains closed to in-person research but staff are here in rotating shifts and responding to remote requests. Please feel free to contact the Reference Desk if you would like to make a request. The online form can be found at this link. https://sos.oregon.gov/archives/Pages/order.aspx
We have recently added delayed birth records from 1903-1918 to the database, along with many other records over the past months, so be sure to keep checking back. https://genealogy.state.or.us/
On a personal note I will be retiring from state service at the end of 2020. I have been with the Archives for 34 years and have loved working with the staff and researchers over these many years. Much has changed in that time but I know that the commitment to preserving and making information from our holdings available will continue to be a priority.
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy and that 2021 will be a calmer and brighter year for us all.
All the Best.
Layne Sawyer
