Success, I received your email. I live in Susanville, CA but an Oregonian in my heart. I am able to get to Baker City every couple of years where I lived my early years. My family came to Oregon in the late 1800. My great grandparent ( Lemon Albert Pickler and Ella Minerva Wilkes Pickler) are buried in the Portland area. My parents (Edgar Leroy Pickler and Lois Margaret McDowall Pickler) and grandparent (Claude Leroy Pickler and Elsie Elizabeth Robbins Pickler) are buried in Baker County. My family name on my father side was Pickler and Robbins. On my mother side was McDowall/McDowell and Conquest. My step-mother (Evelyn Elizabeth Evans) lines was Evans and Wixom. I have a lot of information on those lines as I have search my roots over 20 years.

Thank you

Babe J. Fain

OR-rooters,

Just thought I would check in and make sure the transition to the new address for the list was working. It appears to work correctly on my end but perhaps if I got a few responses back I would feel more assured that we are still functioning properly.

To make it more worthwhile for you to read the message I thought I would share with you some updates from the Archives.

We are still not open to the public but are beginning to work on the process of re-opening. It will likely be a phased process with a variety of changes to protect the health and safety of both staff and the researchers. Stayed tuned, but in the meantime please use the online options if you would like to request copies of any records.

I also want to let you know that we now have the early vital records that had previously been held by the Center for Health Statistics. These include:

Oregon Birth Certificates from June 1903-1915

Oregon Marriage Returns from 1911-1945

Oregon Divorce returns from 1925-1945

Delayed Birth records from 1903-1918

The records are being scanned and will eventually be available on Ancestry and FamilySearch but as you can imagine the indexing of these records will take some time. If you would like to request records from the Reference Desk please use the form found here.

Please include as much information as you may have such as the name; date and county.

Stay well,

Layne Sawyer
