[or-roots] Silly question

Sherry,
As a one of my teacher's once said, "there are no silly questions."
The archives does provide publically accessible photocopy machines in our research area so many researchers use the copy machines to make copies of records that they find relevant to their research. Charge for these self-service copies is 25 cents per page. We are also pretty liberal in allowing people to use cameras to take images of records (digital cameras on tripods and even cellphones) and that is fairly common practice in our research area as well. We also allow researchers to bring small personal scanners into the research room. These can't be used with an automatic document feeder however, and we don't allow the wand scanners as they have greater potential for damage as they are moved across the surface of the document.
Having said all of that I would defer to you as to whether you made photocopies or some type of digital copy. We have had people try to use the photocopiers as scanners and then send copies of the scanned images to their email. However, our IT shop views that as a security risks as the copiers are connected to our network. Because of that risk we do not allow researchers to use the scanning feature on the machines in our research room.
Hope this helps in running down the fugitive information.
Regards,
Layne

Subject: [or-roots] Silly question
Hi Layne,
I came to the Archives last year and found a number of items I had been looking for and solved some mysteries. Thanks!
My silly question is: is it SOP to get copies of items or scan? I can't find some of my items and am a loss where to look in my voluminous stash of genealogy. Can you clarify what likely happened?
Thanks again for what you do!
