I was saddened to learn today of Bob's passing last year. We had many interesting conversations, not the least of which was about our Chapman ancestry.
A buttonhole ex relative of mine tried to locate his place name research on roots web and the links are all dead end. Does anyone know if his work is still available.
The burning question is the origin of the name Boomer Hill in the south Roseburg area. Oddly enough my copy of McArthur doesn't have it. And I am not having any luck teasing it out of the later editions online so it would appear that it hasn't been addressed.
She had always assumed that the name was from a family, but my old TIller survey party crew chief's brother thinks it is named for the "mountain Boomer" or Mountain Beaver. I just went in search of the range of said critter to see if indeed they range down that way and I think they do, but even more interesting was a discussion on linguistlist.org/pipermail/ads-l/2001-April/014927.html as to what the origin of the name Mountain Boomer was and some were suggesting that they didn't think the little dry habitat rodent was even named what my family had always called them.
Anywho if anyone knows the link to Bob's stuff online I would appreciate it, or any thoughts about the origin of the name.
