<DIV>This is one of my Oregon Trail Families that came West in
1861.<BR><BR>Henry W. LEASY and his wife Emily MOORHOUSE Leasy left Green Bay
twp,<BR>Clarke, Iowa 1861 and crossed the plains on the Oregon Trail as<BR>they
made it to Grand Rhonde Valley (now LaGrande, OR) was talked into<BR>staying in
the valley. Henry's oxen was jaded and winter was coming on and<BR>there
was the trip over the Blue Mountains on into Umatilla Agency.<BR><BR>The party
Henry was approached by was from Umatilla Agency (nearby<BR>Pendleton).
Ben Brown and wife and family, William MARKS and his brother, Richard MARKS
and others.<BR>Ben Brown and his wife were the cooks at Umatilla Agency….William
and Richard MARKS</DIV>
<DIV>was there also…. according to Ben Brown's diary. When Abraham Lincoln
was<BR>elected they decided it was time to move on and that is when they all
went<BR>to check out Grand Rhonde Valley. That is where they run into the
LEASY party just as they were leaving Grand Rhonde Valley.<BR>The party settled
in for the winter making 5 huts and a baking unit in the<BR>center.
Richard made the planks for the doors with his whip saw. He
also<BR>fashioned out a violin from alder for music. They whooped it up
much to the<BR>Browns' dismay. With all the dancing and laughter going on
there was a marriage in the<BR>making. William Marks was courting Henry's
oldest daughter, Francis<BR>Caroline LEASY. January 08,1862, Rondeville,
Wasco County, Oregon, William<BR>and Francis tied the knot. The marriage
contract was signed by all who were<BR>the makeup of this little community and
attended alas all but the Browns.<BR><BR><BR>Joyce</DIV>
