<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>DIANE: i lost the root name way, way back. the hoskins name
however is a very different matter. dillon hoskins, i believe, married
the brother of another of my gr. grandmother cynthia
jane shaw. they came to oregon and for awhile lived in the panther
creek area over near dayton, oregon. they then moved to freewater, which
is now milton-freewater. they are both buried at a pioneer cem. in
m.f. cynthia jane shaw's brother was william t. shaw and he m. rebecca
hoskins, so i am interested in that name also.</DIV>

<DIV><BR>Gary, I noticed the name, Root, in you research. I
found the name Root ( no first name given) in the 1875 census of Lake
County, Oregon. Root and Hoskins drove a herd of cattle into the
Chewaucan Valley of Lake County, Oregon from California in 1871 according to
<EM>The History of Central Oregon</EM> <EM>. </EM>In the
1880 census there is still the Hoskins family, but I cannot find any mention
of Root. Louise Hoskins was age 60 in 1880 and had a son and
grandson living with her. Next door was John Hoskins, whom I presume
was another son, and his wife. I find no Root in the cemetery
listings, nor any Hoskins listed either.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Do you have any clues?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks, Diane</DIV>
