<DIV>I remember the day we sat around gramma Kennedy's old red radio and heard
the Atom bomb I always thought that the red radio was just glowing red when we
heard it. It sounded like it would last forever. I wonder how many other
people remember this.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I remember after the war every store in loomis was selling some kind of
war surplus Mom bought John and I a helmet liner to play war in. Things have
sure changed HUh!</DIV>
<DIV>I also went into the Navy but only spent 12 years 4 active and 8 reserve.
I just joined the VFW they finally let me in as I was in active duty during
the only 5 year piece time of the 50s 60s 1958 to 62 I hit it right in the
middle. I qualified for the VFW because I earned the Expeditionary Medal for
the Laos Action in 1961 in the South Chine Sea. </DIV>
<DIV>I also remember the 5 days that we were in the worst of a typhoon
with 200 MPH winds and green water over the bridge 80 ft. above the water
line. Taking 45 degree rolls day and night and slamming from one big wave
to the next. We turned the ship around against all advice and took a 48 degree
roll 3 beyound the maximum that we able to take, we knowked back up by a large
wave slamming agianst us. We were in the ame spot as the three ships that went
down during WW II and took the lives of the Sullivan boys, I almost shook
hands with them. </DIV>
