Is there someone that would be interested in attempting to locate a grave, possibly two, in a pasture on Gale Rd. near Weatherby Wayside, Baker Co., Oregon. It has just come to light that there is a grave in the pasture and has the name of, apparently, a military man named Cooper. The informant didn't remember what else was on the stone. If this man is James FJ Cooper he was with the 2nd Colorado Calvary in the Civil war and probably died between 1895 & 1898 and my great grandfathers brother. It is possible there may be another grave there also. His mother, Sophia Cooper died in 1893 and is probably buried on the land which she owned at the time, 160 acres near Weatherby. There is also a Cooper Pond nearby. My great grandfather H.D. Cooper owned the land after his mother died and sold it in 1901 to a Mr. Ferney.

The current owner lives in Idaho and would have to give permission to go into the pasture but I think he would likely give it. There is a locked gate..

We would like to have a photo taken of the grave and a rubbing. If there is someplace to register old, private graves like this that would be a good idea as well.

I would gladly do some research in Jackson Co. Or and my sister would research Clark Co., WA, if such research might be needed by anyone doing this search for us.
