records

Before the new Archives building was built...our
valuable records were in a sort of huge warehouse down by the river in
Salem. It is a wonder that anything survived that environment. I
was there, and was simply appalled that the State 'fathers' did not allocate
money for a descent location and building for the history of
Oregon. Then when this needed building was built there was a lot of
silly comments, and refusals to attend the dedication by some
politicians. It is my understanding that the contractor upgraded the
materials at his own cost, and the building was finished before
the expected date.
